Inside Volcanoes National Park

Kilauea Overlook is Our Favorite view of the Caldera with minimal walking.

Another Great View of the Caldera is from the Steam Vents!

The old Viewing spot where the museum was has recently reopened and is at the end of the main road. Nice view with a short walk as well.

We hear the COOLEST view is from Devastation Trail. I believe it is about a mile walk each way.

Thurston Lava Tube is a short walk/hike (30 min.) that is well worth it. Really FUN at night... they light it up in the lava tube.

If you enjoy Hiking, Iki Trail is a fun one that is not too difficult and takes you down from the forest and across an old Caldera with steam vents and then back up. Good shoes, a hat, sunscreen and water are recommended.

Chain of Craters Road is a scenic drive with many places to stop, see old Calderas, take breaks and soak in the views. It ends at the coast where there are petroglyphs and a hike to a rock arch on the water.

KMC (Kilauea Military Camp) is inside the park and is a great spot to take a break from the hiking around. They have a small 6 lane BOWLING ALLEY! Only $20 for an hour of bowling for up to 6 people and shoe rental is only $3. They have food (Great Garlic Fries) and an arcade attached with pool tables, air hockey, pin ball and video games. Pretty fun place to take a break and enjoy some A. C.

The park is open 24hrs...

Here is a link to one of the live cameras at the Caldera...

https://www.youtube.com/live/tk0tfYDxrUA?si=i8PPtIPWT3YRaY4u

I would check that occasionally and see if an eruption has started. If one does, jump in the car and head over there A.S.A.P.

Sometimes it only lasts a few hours and you don't want to miss it!

A once in a lifetime opportunity!!!

Especially AMAZING at night.

The USGS link also has great info on Volcanoes, alerts for eruptions and details about visiting the Caldera...

https://www.usgs.gov/observatories/hvo

We also will keep our eyes and ears open for an eruption and if we find out about one, we will let you know!😀👍

Definitely check in at the Visitor Center and ask a Ranger what they suggest, they know all the BEST spots and what's happening in the park at any moment.

We hope this info is helpful and HAVE FUN!!! 🌋

Joshua and Geneva 😀🤙
