We’re so excited to host you and share this one-of-a-kind off-grid home surrounded by native Hawaiian rainforest.

Below is some helpful information to make your stay smooth, comfortable, and relaxing. 🌿

Volcano Home is a 2-bedroom, 2-bath retreat in the Hawaiian Rainforest

Sleeping Options:

🛏️ Each room features a Queen size bed

1 twin mattress (under bed in red “Kīlauea” room)

Single person cot (in "Kilauea" room closet)

1 tri-fold Tatami style mattress

(in “Mauna Kea” room closet)

2 Pack and Plays (1 in each bedroom closet)

Extra linens, blankets, and pillows in both closets.


Bathrooms:

Full bath inside the home

Half bath in garage

Outdoor shower surrounded by rainforest

Extra towels behind bathroom door


Kitchen & BBQ:

Fully stocked with pots, pans, utensils, dishes, paper towels, coffee, tea, condiments & spices.

💧 Drinking water: Cold water and Ice at dispenser on Refrigerator and well as the small spigot at the kitchen sink  / 4 stage filtration with additional UV light

🍲 The oven uses a pilot light...

Oven Lighting Instructions:

1. Press and hold the knob in.


2. Turn to standby and count to 20 to light the pilot.


3. Turn briefly to MIN to ignite, then set your desired temperature.

🚿 Extra bath towels (in hallway bathroom)

Beach towels are in the bedroom closets

🧻 Extra toilet paper, spare toiletries and first aid supplies in bathroom cabinet

🎲 Board & trivia games in hall cabinet, books, magazines and local activity brochures throughout the home; please enjoy

☔ Umbrellas for sudden tropical showers

📻 Walkie Talkies for exploring nearby trails or keeping in touch off-grid

🔦 Flashlights for your nighttime rainforest adventures

🏖️ Beach Gear: Snorkeling equipment, boogie boards, sand toys, life jackets, floaties, beach chairs, towels, cooler in the carport. Ice packs are in the kitchen freezer.

Volcano Home is off grid and situated on 3 acres of untouched Hawaiian Rainforest. Located 1.7 miles down a maintained gravel road (NO 4WD NEEDED), we are at the very back of an Agricultural Community.

Our home is located about 30 minutes from any major restaurants and shopping, so we recommend stopping for groceries and essentials before heading up to the Hale (home).🤙

Grocery & Dining Options:

Hilo (20 miles away): Walmart, Safeway, KTA, Target & Island Naturals (for organic foods).

Kea‘au (closer): Foodland, Kea‘au Natural Foods & several quick dining spots (Pizza Hut, McDonald’s, Subway, etc.).

Volcano Village (near the National Park): small market, gas station, restaurants, art galleries, gift shops, a winery, golf course, and farmers markets (Sunday morning & Thursday evening).

Nearby: Hirano Market just outside the neighborhood — groceries and a small breakfast/lunch counter (closes 6pm, lunch counter 2pm).

Volcano Home is 100 % off-grid — powered by solar energy with a backup generator.

🌞 Daytime: plenty of power for all activities.
🌙 Nighttime: you’ll run on batteries — please turn off lights when not in use.

🌧️ Water is provided by collecting Rain.

If it’s been raining all day, the generator may start automatically. Water is plentiful during wet weather; when it’s dry, conservation is appreciated.

You’ll likely find you don't even notice the difference — just the joy of living sustainably and self-reliantly. 🌿

We are proud to offer

FREE SATELLITE WIFI 

You can unwind with the knowledge that you are not completely disconnected. Use the Wifi to make phone call/texts, stream movies/music, surf the net and play your favorite online games.

Please double-check that no personal or provided items get packed by accident.
If something breaks or needs replacing, just send us a quick message — we appreciate the heads up so we can prepare for the next guests.

We built this home by hand and filled it with custom furnishings and artwork — we hope you’ll enjoy and care for it as if it were your own. 🌺
